Shireland Technology Primary is committed to serving its community and embraces the belief that at the heart of a modern, ever-changing community is the acceptance of key British values.
By working to promote these values, it means that our children will be able to grow as individuals in the community and country in which they live. The school believes that this is something not only achieved through the curriculum, but through the school’s ethos as well as its provision for pupils beyond formal lessons.
We are committed to ensuring that pupils behave in a way that is at all times accepting and open. Through our diverse and innovative curriculum, explicit teachings through personal, social, health and emotional (PSHE), religious education (RE) and assemblies, we address the core ideals held by Britain, whilst challenging those that contradict them.
By promoting British values, our school is promoting values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty alongside mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. It is essential that we ensure all of these are promoted and respected, to enable our children to grow and develop with strong moral values.
The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy; these values were reiterated in 2014. It is the responsibility of Shireland Technology Primary to ensure that our children follow these so that they are prepared for life in modern Britain.
