Shireland Technology Primary Celebrates Diwali with Dance, Creativity and Cultural Learning

Pupils at Shireland Technology Primary enjoyed a vibrant series of activities in celebration of Diwali, the festival of lights, bringing learning, creativity and cultural understanding to the heart of the school.

In the weeks leading up to the event, learners explored the festival through a range of immersive experiences. They tried traditional Bhangra dancing, creating their own colourful diva lamps, tasting authentic festive foods and taking part in a special assembly, which explained the meaning and significance of Diwali.

The activities not only provided fun and engagement but also supported pupils’ broader learning and development. By experiencing different cultural traditions first-hand, children developed a deeper understanding of diversity, empathy and respect for others, while building their confidence and creativity.

Reflecting on the celebrations Andy Collins, Associate Principal at Shireland Technology Primary, said: “Events like this give our pupils the chance to explore and celebrate a range of different cultures beyond their own.

“Seeing them take part with such enthusiasm and curiosity shows how these experiences enrich their learning and help them grow as thoughtful, confident members of our community.”
