The sound of a pneumatic drill rips across the quiet lull of the playground in lesson time. It is music to my ears because it means that finally building work has started on the permanent building for Shireland Technology Primary.
It means that in September 2020 we will move from our temporary home on the ground floor of the brand-new extension of Shireland Secondary to our own building off Waterloo Road.
So, from September 2019 we start our journey with Year 1 and Reception to becoming an all through school from Nursery up to Post 16. We are currently the only Primary school in Smethwick that will be able to offer a guaranteed place to Shireland Collegiate Academy in Year 7.
For one whole year, this exceptional new building on Grange Road will be our home and boasts 9 learning spaces for just three classes. We have our own dining facilities, playground and grass learning and play area for our 90 pupils.
We have worked hard to ensure that this temporary home will be of an equally high standard as the new school itself which will be ready for us next Summer including equipping each of the learning spaces with the award-winning furniture from Community Playthings.
We will be busy over the Summer getting all of the classrooms ready for Wednesday 4th September when Year 1 start with us. Reception will start the following week on Monday 9th September.
On a separate note our Parent Evening on 3rd July was a resounding success; it was just wonderful to see so many families coming and being so supportive.
We were able to give out our Welcome Packs, show off our new uniform and allow for pupils and families to meet their new teacher. Thanks to CCs for being a fantastic uniform partner to work with.
So as this Summer Term draws to a close we are only weeks away from finally opening the doors to pupils and families. The team at Shireland Technology Primary are primed and ready to meet and greet and start the journey with our very first cohort. It really is an exciting time for us all.
